You should NOT buy ground nutmeg, you should buy WHOLE nutmegs and a little grater.

This is true, and I am lazy. When a little grater is needed, I use this icon.

I don't suppose two jars of grated nutmeg would be suitable for Secret Hogfather?

I wouldn't...I have it on good authority that the hallucinogenic dose of nutmeg isn't far short of the lethal.

1. You should NOT buy three gallons of Egg Nog...

2. ...and some rum.

Though they would go nicely with the nutmeg.

(and I finally have an excuse for this icon, yay)

Dried mint is the work of the devil.

I'd go away at Xmas and have someone else cook. Oh wait, that's what I am doing!

Worse: the ground parmesan my father used to buy in little plastic tubs in the 1970s. It might as well have been ground Formica, but for the dreadful odour.

This is why I grow herbs. That - and not liking nutmeg - avoids this kind of confusion.

I have 3 jars of dill due to forgetting that I have some, or not being able to locate it prior to going shopping.

I currently have a drawer full of spices and herbs, plus a cupboard full of bizarre ingredients. I have no idea what to do with them.

I understand you can look them all up on the internet now. Impressive how well that works.

I'm about to look up Pomegranates and Pomegranate Juice myself (gift thingies). But then I tend to use up all the bizarre things, and then try something else. Right now I have oversupply of endive, cabbage, and winter radishes, but I know lots of things to do with those.

You should buy neither nutmeg nor mint, but whole nutmegs (as previously recommended) and a proper mint plant (ie not from the supermarket) for your freshly-renovated garden. Oh, and a popping-candy Chocolate Orange, because they are nice.
