|Stag Do Number 2, April 22nd

stag do number 1, an afternoon of beer in Sheffield. Some of you will have read about my plans for |
Plans are now in place for stag do number 2, a day of culture in London.
Meet at 10:30 on April 22nd in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern on the south bank (you can find the entrance here). We'll visit various places in the immediate area (picking up lunch on the way), and find some local eatery in the evening.
Be aware that it's the same day as the London Marathon (which may disrupt travel plans for some of you) and it's a Sunday (which may also have implications for travel).
There's a Damien Hirst exhibition at Tate Modern, the Romantics and Picasso are at Tate Britain, the V+A have a thing about adventure comics, Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition is at the Natural History museum, Dickens is at the Museum of London, and the Globe has a free day of interesting stuff. All sorts of other interesting things are available to do in London. If the weather's good we may have a spell in a park somewhere (off the Marathon route) lolling around on the grass.
Ideas for other things to do in the area on the day are welcome.
Would love to, but already have booked a day with students in the BM and National Gallery.
I can point you in the direction of ten of Leonardo Da Vinci's finest drawings in various media, with free admission... but it's at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, so probably outside zone 4.
There's allegedly about 500 of those in that big place at the end of the Mall. Does anyone have a phone number for Liz?
She fell out with one of my cousins once, changed her number, we never heard from her again. In-laws, what can you do.
(That's meant to be a thumbs-up sign. Ah well.)
and I are Tate members, so we both have self+1 cards, which may come in handy.
That is excellent. And I have a certain budget for admission charges, for people who aren't so covered.
Is the Tate Modern no longer free? It used to be in the early years, when I went quite a few times...
The Tate Modern as a whole is free, but there are certain exhibitions therein for which an extra charge applies (unless you're a member or their plus-one). The Damien Hirst is, I imagine, such an exhibition.
"How very stupid of me not to have thought of that," if I may be excused one of my favourite quotes from a man of science.
I may pass on the Hirst bit, then - I find him egregious and tasteless & I have paid to see one of his exhibitions once before, in Oslo at Astrud Fearnley Museet (IIRC.) But I'll meet you there & join you when you come out. Not been to the TM in 6-7y or more, I suspect.
All the rest sounds good, too!
This also leads me to wonder how the /hell/ I remember the name of a private art gallery in Norway I visited once on a whim, but I can't remember daily stuff I need on a routine basis without putting it in my phone.
I'm a member of the Tate in case anyone wants to come with me to exhibitions there :-)
I mean - I have a membership plus 1 guest.
Damn, damn, damn. I am busy that day.
Oh well, I hope to see you in the evening perhaps...
Thanks for mentioning that it is the London Marathon...
Will see what else prevails that day...
Meanwhile do you guys have a wedding list please?
When we moved in together, we each had a large accumulated heap of posessions from the preceding several years, and we took the view that two whole heaps of posessions was enough to be getting on with.

Sounds like great fun, but I'm volunteering at the Virgin London Marathon that weekend, so have a great time.
