September 11th -- A significant anniversary

708 years ago today, on 11th September 1297, William Wallace defeated the Earl of Surrey in the battle of Stirling Bridge, in part of the struggle by the Scots to gain independence from the English.

Let's use today to think about freedom from control by foreign powers.

83 years ago today, on 11th September 1922, the British mandate of Palestine was passed by the League of nations -- a document instructing the British to "safeguard the civil and religious rights of all the inhabitants of Palestine".

Let's use today to think about safeguarding civil and religious rights.

32 years ago today, on 11th September 1973, General Augusto Pinochet took over from President Salvador Allende of Chile in a military coup.

Let's use today to think about the appropriateness of military intervention in civillian government.

I'm sure there are other anniversaries today. There's a lot to think about.

The object of the game is to stump the person writing the journal. I've been writing in my livejournal for three and a quarter years, and can't possibly remember all the topics I've talked about in that time.

Your job, if you choose to accept it, is to go into the archives of my journal and pull out a random quote from some time, some year, and then my job will be to see if I can remember what I was talking about. You tell me if I'm remotely right or wrong.

Nope, I can't peek, and you'll have to trust I won't. :)

Please don't pick a quote that's so random that it could apply to anything, like "feh" or "Damn it!" or something equally general. Pick something that might actually be about something, but not so blatantly about something that I'll have to guess what I'm talking about.
