This means that I'm just around the corner from a favourite bookshop, so at lunchtime I went shopping.
A first edition, first printing of "The Annotated Snark" by Martin Gardner: the full text of Lewis Carroll's great nonsense epic "The Hunting of the Snark", and the original illustrations, with an introduction and notes by MG. Simon and Schuster, New York, 1962.
First and only printing/edition of "I can read with my eyes shut" by Dr Seuss translated into Hebrew by A S Giesel. Printed in Israel 1982. The original was copyright Dr Seuss 1978. "By arrangement with Random House, Inc".
Not a first at all, but a first printing by Paragon: also it's only a paperback. "Amphigorey", a collection of fifteen books by Edward Gorey. The collection is copyright Edward Gorey 1972, but this was printed in 1979. G P Putnam's Sons, New York. Signed by the author: no message, he's just crossed his name out on the title page and signed above it.
Why is my birthday so close to payday?
