I arrived a few moments after noon, having previously received text messages telling me that everyone but the boys would be out -- and was greeted at the door by Pixie with a big hug. I was conducted to the kitchen, where whotheheckami and the_mendicant were found, engaged in cookery and laundry respectively -- activities they interrupted for further hugs.
I volunteered for kitchen duties and found myself preparing spuds to make the top layer of a shepherd's pie. There was coffee. I was compared to previous occupants of the sous-chef role -- apparently previous candidates had proved insufficiently submissive.
Pixie disappeared to collect daemongirl, and returned later with her in tow. There was more hugging. Reese's were delivered, thanks were conveyed. Lunch was served and eaten. There was orange juice.
We retired to the comfy chairs and there was a great deal of talk on a number of matters, and it was all very pleasant. And then, shortly after four, I had to leave in order to take myself north for the second part of the weekend. Somehow, this seemed to involve further hugs, which I didn't seem to mind at all.
