In the middle of the night, I woke up. Something wasn't right.
I could smell something. And my Internet connection was down -- had been down since about three minutes past midnight. So I wandered along the corridor upstairs ... and discovered that my firewall had died in a puff of smoke. It's about ten years old (Linux on Compaq), so it hasn't done badly.
Now it just so happened that I had a little hardware firewall in stock, still in its box. So at around half-two this morning, I was crawling round the back of the servers moving cat5 around and rebuilding the ruleset. What fun.
As a side-effect, I now have wireless Internet at home. But it does mean I'm suffering from lack of sleep today.
