Yesterday, just before midnight local time, scarlatti's mother wrote:

Susan died today, June 15th, at 1:11 p.m. Please forgive me for the lack of detail. I will write more later.

As indeed will I.

oh I'm so sorry. My memories of Susan are brief but wonderful.
The light in the world is dimmer for her loss.
You are in my thoughts.

I'm one of the people who didn't know you or her and found this through a friend's journal. scarlatti's name stuck out for me; I'm sure that I'd seen her posting in many places, including the Gilbert and Sullivan community where we are both members.

Ordinarily I wouldn't want to intrude on such a personal moment, but when reading through the many comments here I was struck by the number of people whose names sounded familiar to me from entirely different situations. What a wonderful testament to her impact on many communities, both in real life and on the Web.
We live in a truly small world, and people like you and scarlatti are the glue that keeps it together. I hope you're able to find some peace, both within the next few days and in the future.

If she was active on the G+S community, and you feel that to do so doesn't fall outside the rules of the community, you could usefully let them know what's going on.

I never met her, but I've learned from friends just how wonderful a person she was. I promise you, she will be missed.

Jesus. I'm so sorry. I didn't even know her except for her writing, but... I don't know what to say. I hope you're all doing okay.

I don't know what to say. I want to cry with you.

We're sad because we'll never get any new writing from her but the pain must be so much worse for you because of how much she meant to you.

It seems to trite to say we'll miss her but...we'll miss her. When events happen, I'll always wonder what her take on the subject would have been.

scarlatti's brother

I am Susan's brother. My mother pointed me to live journal and I have been reading through these comments and am very touched to the point of tears. Thank you all so much for your caring and thoughts and more importantly your friendship to my sister in the past. I always knew she had friends through the Internet, but am now learning how many caring friends in this space there are. I hope I get a chance to get to know some of you so I can thank you personally for your kindness.

I'm another LJ-friend who only knew Susan through her posts and writings, and yet I'm thankful to have known even that little bit of who she was. You and the rest of her family are in my thoughts, truly -- I'm so sorry.
