Let me tell you about yourself... [Feb. 2nd, 2007|09:20 pm]
Douglas Spencer
I've seen a couple of people doing this so ...
    Comment and I will:

    1) Tell you why I friended you.
    2) Associate you with a song/film.
    3) Tell a random fact about you.
    4) Tell a first memory about you.
    5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
    6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
    7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
    8) In retort, you must spread this disease in your LJ.
Firstly, I'm only going to do the first five or so (unless you're later than that and you're really interesting, or I'm really trying to avoid starting something else). Secondly, I'm not too hot on songs and films, so you might want to manage your expectations about question two. Finally, you don't really have to do that number eight thing if you're disinclined so to do.

I believe the phrase I'm looking for is, "Yo".

Yo ho ho.

1) Tell you why I friended you.
At the ZZ9 AGM in 2003, you were interesting and entertaining, and as a young person active in ZZ9 you're unusual too.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
As I've said, I really don't know enough about the field. Since you go on about it and I'm not really familiar with it, I'll say "The Mighty Boosh", even though it's neither song nor film.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
David Langford bought you a pint.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
That AGM. A small enthusiastic person who kept saying "I'll have to ask my parents if I can do that..."

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
Your attitude to alcohol seems to mirror Ford's.

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
I believe I usually ask that sort of thing, if I'd like to know.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
This one, because the context is entertaining and so are the occasions when you and the_major choose to deploy it.

I really like the answers to questions three to five, and I thought you might choose that one for question seven... :)

1) Tell you why I friended you.
You were delightfully entertaining at Worldcon.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
As I've said above, I really don't know enough songs or films. If you were a film, it would be a film about a charming young lady who found it difficult to get up or go to bed at sensible times.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
I don't know enough random facts about you. Ummm... I've got access to your webserver.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
Not quite the first memory of you, but the phrase "... and my escort fell off her stilettos..." is a memorable one.

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
When you keep using icons that feature your cleavage so prominently, it's difficult to think of anything other than one pair in particular. I think you should give them both names, and then we can write fanfic about them.

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
I would probably have asked, if I hadn't already. I'm interested in how you and flick handle that intriguing plan you both have for Lent.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
This one is pretty good.

1) Tell you why I friended you.
The usual reason -- you are interesting and entertaining, and you continue to be worth reading.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
I suppose I should say "Waves of Tory", shouldn't I? No, I'll go with "Over the hills and far away" for the time being.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
You're more single-minded in your obsessions -- thinking here particularly about things like energy consumption and carbon footprint -- than most people I know.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
The bondage workshop at the 2004 Eastercon.

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
Sam Carter and Harry Maybourne.

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
As I've said to others, if there were something I would normally have asked by now.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
I like this one, "Up to no good".

I think that one comes from too much knowledge. You have to remember that I did my degree in environmental science (well, half of it) - I've followed earth sciences ever since then and I've seen climate change move from not even being on the syllabus at university becasuse we hadn't even realised it was happening, to general fears about something that would happen over hundreds of years, to something that is going to have a major impact in my own lifetime.

The choice is either to fiddle while Rome burns, or to try and do something - no matter how small - to try and save this rather lovely planet that we live on, not to forget the millions of people who are going to die as a result of climate change. If reducing my CO2 emissions saves just one of those people, then it's worth doing.

If the danger was less, I'd probably be a lot less focused.

I've always loved 'Over the Hills and Far Away' even before I encountered Sharpe. Don't forget, we're going to filk that one.

When I first saw that icon - grin - I begged to be allowed to copy it.

1) Tell you why I friended you.
I suspect it will have been because I heard jamesb talking about you, and I went to have a look. Maybe you friended me first -- I don't recall.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
I'm beginning to regret including this line, because I'm quite incapable of doing so.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
Last time I saw you (October 2006) it took a couple of minutes to realise it was you because you'd started wearing your hair long.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
I think you were the first local person I didn't previously know who talked to me at my first Octocon. This will have been sat around in the bar, the evening before the convention started.

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
Again difficult, because I haven't previously associated you with any fanfiction, and I haven't heard you talking about SF much, only about fandom. So that's another question I'm skipping.

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Not really in the "always wanted to know" league, but how are you adjusting to not running a P-Con?

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
I don't really have a favourite, but the first time I saw this one, I was disproportionately amused.

1) Tell you why I friended you.
In the early days of LJ, you needed a "code" in order to join the site, and my code came from you. I think, therefore, that you were the first person I friended when I created the account. See also the answer to question four, below.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
I've said elsewhere that this is a difficult question for me, but in your case you're the person who first introduced me to two excellent songs, the ones which you've used in your Sims movies, "Use Sunscreen" and "The Worst Disease".

3) Tell a random fact about you.
You used to live where I used to work.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
The first time I remember having met you was at the convention where you got us all to join LJ.

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
As you know I delight in weak puns. You were one of the people involved in the whole Cardboards thing, and it was Willow who delivered the line "board now".

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
I tend to ask if there is, and there isn't currently.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
It's difficult when so many are of you, which leaves less to choose between them, but I like this one.

1) Tell you why I friended you.
Ummm... No specific reason. You're someone I knew before I was on LJ, so when I joined and saw you there it made sense to add you.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
See my answers to this question, above. But you're the only person who goes on about anime on my friends page, so that would condition the choice of film if I knew anything about the field.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
It would probably be something to do with your endocrine system, or your PPL.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
You've been around in ZZ9 for ever, certainly longer than me, so if I could remember anything it would probably be something ZZ9-related. But since I've known you easily twice as long as anyone else who commented here, it'll be too long ago for me to remember.

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
Again, if I knew anything about the field it would be some Japanese animated character ... but I don't.

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
See my answers to previous correspondents -- were there something, I'd have asked already.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
This one, the one you're using as a default at the time of your comment, I quite like.

Troublemaker ...

1) Tell you why I friended you.
Much the same as some others: I'd known you for a long time, so when you joined LJ, I friended you.

2) Associate you with a song/film.
I've had trouble with this question throughout, and usually end up skipping it.

3) Tell a random fact about you.
You're the only person I know who has done a charity run dressed as a gorilla.

4) Tell a first memory about you.
It'll be something in connection with a convention, but I'd be pushed to remember which was first. See question five ...

5) Associate you with a character/pairing.
Ah, that Trillian outfit. Was that at Vocon?

6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
The standard answer -- were there something, I'd have asked by now.

7) Show you my favourite user pic of yours.
I nearly chose the one with the corset, but instead I've got the one drawn from one of my photos, which is always pleasing.
8) In retort, you must spread this disease in your LJ.
