The Sunday night "far too late for introspection" review: Avril Lavigne, "Let Go"

There was much discussion about Avril Lavigne on my friends pages a couple of weeks ago, with quizzes and everything. I was completely baffled because I'd never heard of her.

Well, now someone's lent me her CD: it's called "Let Go".

I now realise that an unidentified song I've been hearing and enjoying recently is one of hers, "Complicated". It's all about the different masks that we wear when we're amongst different groups of people. I've been deliberately trying to Let Go of these masks: to do so seems to run counter to all my conditioning. I spend my life telling people to be themselves, and it's advice I've been forcing myself to follow. It's hard.

Another track on the same CD is a real treasure. Some of you know I'm destroying myself over stubborn fiction which is refusing to let me write it properly. I'm in awe of people who can write just now. Avril Lavigne both earns and captures my awe: as writers go, I'm just Ordinary, while she seems to be Anything But.

"Anything But Ordinary"
Is it enough to love? Is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out and leave me here to bleed.
Is it enough to die? Somebody save my life:
I'd rather be anything but ordinary, please.

I'm going to have to buy my own copy of this CD.
