Fan Fund Voting [Apr. 14th, 2007|12:12 am]
Douglas Spencer
Some of the JETS candidates on my friends list have done a very good job of encouraging all qualified voters to cast their vote, and JETS voting is now closed (as of about twelve minutes ago).

Now, about GUFF ...

Ang for GUFF!

Oh yes, I can have an opinion in this one!

Re: Ang for GUFF!

And more usefully I should have said: voting deadline is midnight, UK time, on Monday 16 April (so less than three days to go now). Find out more and vote online via http://www.users.on.net/~juliettewoods/guff.html

And go to http://www.efanzines.com/Porridge/index.htm to read I Knew The Porridge Was Trying To Tell Me Something: Some collected writings of Ang Rosin (for GUFF) (in print and screen-readable versions). We'd like it to encourage people to support Ang, or to give her their second places if they're supporting someone else; but I also think it's really enjoyable reading in itself.

I typed my comment below before I read this one.

Re: Ang for GUFF!

Personally, I think everybody should be encouraged to vote for Ang at least twice. Just to be sure...

Re: Ang for GUFF!

Anyway, you do proper linky things. People might prefer that.

Re: Ang for GUFF!

Oops, why did nobody remind me about GUFF until now? Hope a PayPal vote is sufficient, but it says a signature is required. I could stick the paper form in the post, but it won't arrive by Monday.

Re: Ang for GUFF!

I think you know this, but paypal alone is fine.

Re: Ang for GUFF!

Ah, thanks for clarifying that - I hoped it might be, but I read "You must sign your ballot, but your vote will not be made public", which suggests that a paper ballot might be needed.

Yes, Doug, tell us all about GUFF, why don't you...

Everyone qualified to vote in GUFF should do so. They should think hard about exactly how to deploy their later preferences after they vote for Ang, and they should hurry up because the deadline is imminent. They should visit the GUFF 2007 page, and follow the link to the page where they can donate and vote.

If they're in any doubt about just why they should vote for Ang, they may wish to read "I Knew The Porridge Was Trying To Tell Me Something" to help them decide.

There's probably something I've forgotten to mention. Oh, yes, there are other candidates too, vote for them as well, number them second and third and so on after you vote for Ang in first place.

If you decide to vote for someone else, you should vote for Ang prominently amongst your subsequent preferences.

Yes, I think that's everything.

My, what a fine summary of the GUFF process that is...

Yes, I think that about sums it up.

Since we all know Ang is going to win, why does it matter how we use our second and third preferences?

There are three other good candidates. Obviously I think Ang should win, and I hope you think Ang should win, but people might have other opinions (they're funny that way).

Also, more significantly, if someone thinks that another candidate is the best, just in case insufficient people agree with them and their candidate is eliminated it would be good if they liked Ang second-best and voted that way...

We need an electronic equivalent of taping people's feet to the floor until they vote. Any thoughts?
