Thoughts about the Novacon Art Show [Apr. 14th, 2007|05:02 pm]
Douglas Spencer
Prompted by someone else posting pictures of her artwork, and having been thereby reminded that she was in the art show last year, I've been thinking.

I've done origami workshops at conventions before. In fact I'm down to do one at Year of the Teledu. I restocked on paper at the Japanese Shop in Chester during Eastercon, and I've been folding again.

Those models are all folded from squares about two inches on a side, which means they're mostly between a quarter and a half an inch across (say six to twelve mm in the new money).

Questions: Is it worth me putting something together for the Novacon art show? Is it at all likely that anyone would want to bid, on something that I'd routinely give away free in the bar anyway? Should I attempt something particularly complex for the show?

Must be my monitor or something. The image is almost totally black.

If you do something for the Novacon art show, I'd consider a way of building individual origami figures into a larger piece of art. For instance, a set of really tiny birds could become a flock in flight against a fantasy sky, or if you felt more abstract, you could glue them in a spiral against a fabric background in a picture frame. (patterned paper, plain fabric)

It's dark enough (bad photography on my part), but it's a long way off black on my screen.

Thanks for the extra ideas, it looks like I'll be having a play with some of those.
