Mother's party [Jun. 1st, 2007|12:46 pm]
Douglas Spencer
As some of you know, I'm down here in Devon for the weekend running my mother's 70th birthday party, which occurs tonight.

I'm particularly pleased to find that all the hotel bedrooms at the venue we've chosen have a small leaflet which asks guests to turn out any lights they're not using, in order to reduce light pollution for people who are visiting the west country to look at the night sky.  Hurrah!

Call me cynical if you like but it annoys me a little when hotels ask you to do something "because it will help the environment" and it just happens to also reduce their operating costs.

Not that reducing light pollution is a bad thing, but street lights are a far worse culprit than hotel bedrooms.
