ZZ9 Calendar [Jun. 11th, 2007|06:26 pm]
Douglas Spencer
[Current Mood |frustratedfrustrated]

I renewed my membership of ZZ9 at Eastercon, as is my habit. When later I received my copy of MH 104, it had the "Your ZZ9 membership expired with the last issue of Mostly Harmless" edition of the renewal form enclosed. Time for an email to the committee.

Now I'm reading the diary page.

16th June -- Towel Picnic in Nottingham. Clashes with Day of the Teledu, also in Nottingham, and with the BSFA/SFF AGMs in Sheffield. So I'll miss it.

14th July -- Beeblebears Picnic in London. Clashes with a birthday party in Wiltshire. So I'll miss it.

20th-22nd July -- ConTent II in Cornwall. Clashes with Year of the Teledu in Leicester. So I'll miss it.

18th August -- ZZ9 Party for the 25th anniversary of LTUAE, in Nottingham. Clashes with a wedding reception in London. So I'll miss it.

25th August -- HHG / B7 Supersoaker fight in Dorset. Carefully organised not to clash with anything, AFAIK. Looking forward to seeing some of you there. Didn't get listed in the club magazine. *sigh* Paging the editor -- can we please ensure it gets listed in the next issue, assuming it's published before the event, even if the meetings organiser doesn't tell you about it?

Am keeping 1st September (Cambridge Slouch) and 6th October (book launch) free...

Book launch is for the new novel from ZZ9's very own rwgray, and is as described in the recent posts on his LJ.

Yes, the party clashes with a "fannish" wedding in London, as well as a significant birthday for an ex-committee member, so that eliminates quite a few fans/old-time ZZ9ers. But if the aim is to attract new people, perhaps that isn't important.

Also, as August is in the school holidays that date was always automatically going to exclude some people.

ZZ9 are having a bit of a troublesome time at the minute.

Bear with them. They have not found the cookie jar yet.

Yes, I heard they were a bit light on committee members these days.

It's like watching a car accident in slow motion. You don't want to be there but at the same time something wont let you walk away.

I don't suppose you want a spare room filling with Beeblebears do you? On the plus side if the club folds you get the delightful task of setting fire to the lot :)

I'd like a spare room! But if I had one I wouldn't fill it with beeblebears, lovely though they are.

I still remember the day when I came home to find that my entire living room had been filled with boxed of towels. You couldn't even get through the door. Luckily Noel eventually took them away and put them in his huge loft.

I wouldn't mind doing merchandise, in fact I tried it a couple of years ago, but it's difficult running it from someone else's house.

My main problem was with the committee at the time though, or rather some of them. From what I gather its been much the same for reverendjim more recently.

Oooh many towels. Luckily we don't have that many now (though quite possibly more towels than members).

Hmmmm Uncle Noel is still a member I believe..... nooo I couldn't be that cruel.

The committee at the minute is struggling. I can't blame them - the club is dying, but who wants to be the one that finally pulls the plug?
