Casanova [Oct. 21st, 2007|09:01 pm]
Douglas Spencer
So I find myself with an opportunity to watch "Casanova" with David Tenant, something I haven't seen before.

Worthwhile?

It's excellent, so excellent in fact, that I have the DVD and have watched it several times!

I thought it was pretty good but I agree Peter O'Toole is the star.

Seen it three times. It's fantastic. It did take me a while to click with it - but once you realise that everything with David Tennant in it is Peter O'Toole's story about his youth, rather than necessarily how it happened, it all works perfectly.

It's awesome. Parts of it are genuinely sexy, it's mostly taken from the great man's vast memoirs, and it's pretty moving at times as well. (It gets the tone of Casanova's memoirs very right, I think.)

I wonder how long it will be before someone posts smut on this thread, summoned by the magic words 'David Tennant'?

It's not, I think, quite as good as the other commenters here have made it out to be, but it's well-made and a lot of fun. It did, however, clarify a lot of the issues I had with Tennant's acting choices and Davies's characterization choices with regards to the tenth Doctor.

The Second Coming is still the best Davies I've seen, though, and Casanova doesn't even come close.
