Wrestling with computers [Jan. 8th, 2009|12:11 pm]
Douglas Spencer
It seems likely that I'll miss the Tun tonight, apologies to anyone who was hoping to see me there.

In other news, I've ordered two new sofas, costing about a grand between them. I was feeling sorry for myself but then I found someone who'd ordered less furniture for more money, so I felt a bit better even if mine aren't going to be leather. Does anyone want my old furniture (three-seat sofa gradually collapsing and with intrusive springs, two matching single chairs, all rather grubby)?

Furniture: no thanks!

But if it makes you feel even better, my brother (nice chap but an idiot sometimes) got designer sofas, leather, and to his choice of colour (blue) and quite large (too big for a small flat, but he's got a big warehouse flat in EC1!) ... and I believe his two sofas came to £5,500 (I've never paid that much for a car, never mind a couch!)

But aside from the time when he's in front of the computer or in bed, he spends most of his time on those sofas and they will last for years, so I suppose there's an argument ... no! It's still ridiculous!

I think they are way way beyond that - they may well lack the appropriate labelling, one of the armchairs seat falls off as you sit on it, the padding is too poor to protect the sitter from the metal plates in the back, and the springs around the head area could take your eye out if you hit them at the wrong angle. And as for the level of grubbiness.... yeurch!

I think you are being a bit unfair - one of the sofas is a sofa bed, and you have also ordered replacement covers - oooh! You are soooo domestic, darling!
