The Internet knows all, and I am lazy... [Jun. 17th, 2009|09:20 pm]
Douglas Spencer
There's an advert for adverts on the telly just at the moment. It includes soundbites for a number of iconic adverts from the last thirty years, and we've identified all the adverts bar one -- the one right at the end of the sequence.

We can't recall which advert, for which product, features a boy's voice saying the words "Accrington Stanley".

Can anyone help?

That was milk. It was one of those "drink up your milk and you'll be able to play for a great football team that isn't Accrington Stanley" adverts.

I'll hunt round the Interwebs later and see if I can find it for you.

Yeah, I knew that. I even remember a chunk of the dialogue except it's missing the famous footballer's name.

"[name] says that if I don't drink enough milk then I'll only be good enough to play for Accrinton Stanley."

"Who are they?"

IIRC Accrington Stanley went on to sue the Milk Marketing Board for libel / defamation & ended up significantly richer, though possibly that was merely urban legend.
