It's a tremendously exciting day for Quakers, for people of faith generally, and for everyone who values equality, integrity, and the faithful reflection of God's love for the whole of humanity.|
My little chum Anne van Staveren looks after the press office for the Quakers. I've just sent her a text message wishing good luck for everyone concerned.
To homophobes the world over: fuck thee.
(a sentence I'm rather surprised to write)
Still the law's going the right way. With the age of consent equalisation and civil partnerships things are looking good.
Oh that's wonderful! But then, seeing as I've always found Quaker folks to be generally sorted and all-round grounded, I'm not at all surprised.
Indeed this is good.
But the quote below made me especially pleased, even more than the headline:
"reaffirming our central insight that marriage is the Lord’s work and we are but witnesses. The question of legal recognition by the state is secondary."
Somehow, I'm proud to live in a country where such views can be expressed...
