The sumo tournament...

Was that at Incon 1, Incon 2, Incon V, or somewhere else?

Incon 1, I'm reasonably sure.

Since my other correspondent wasn't there (see my reply to Julia below), might you be able to write up my participation in the tournament for the fanzine?

Definitely Incon 1. I seem to remember a plethora of hotel towels and safety pins, and Simo in a dressing gown as the referee sprinkling salt all over the place to "purify" the ring. I think Al Johnson won despite not being convincingly lardy... Why the question?

As you know I've commissioned some fanzine articles. In response, one of my potential contributors asked me to remind him if I'd done anything noteworthy at Incon 2 or 5... and I wondered if the Sumo tournament qualified.

I recall being very disappointed with the towels and safety pins. I was the only contestant wearing a mawashi of traditional construction. And yes, Al knocked me out in the semi-finals and went on to win.

Frankie was frightfully smug that he didn't need to rely on mere safety pins - he had cable ties. I suspect that authenticity of costume was not the prime motivator of most of the contestants.
