Lots of people are doing this.

2011: Living in a modest mid-terraced house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, having recently moved in with julia_winolj. Self-employed by ND2 Ltd (formerly part of NDS Ltd), the company of which I'm sole director -- sole anything, in fact. There's very little work to be had.

2001: Living in a modest mid-terraced house in Bracknell, Berkshire, having married my then wife Anne about four years previously. Employed as a computer network engineer by NDS Ltd, a computer consultancy with three or four people, depending on how you count us.

1991: Living in a one-bedroomed back-to-back house (one of four one-bedroomed houses built in the footprint of what ought to be a conventional four-bedroomed house) in Feltham, in the west of London. Living on my own, but the house is co-owned with my brother who is living and working in Germany. Working as a Unix sysadmin for a small laboratory equipment supply house.

1981: Living with my parents and four brothers in a rambling five-bedroomed semi-detached house in Hanworth, in the west of London. At school in Barnes, preparing for O-levels. There are a succession of short-term pets, depending on what the A-level biology students will be dissecting later that term.

1971: Living with the same people in the same house, only it's marginally less rambling with only three bedrooms.

This post is a nonsense. It takes no account of the huge changes that take place between each of these snapshots.

In 1961 my parents were in Reading with their only son, my eldest brother, who was only a couple of months old; I was still four years in the future.
